PLAY IT FORWARD is a phrase that basically means if something good happens to a person he turns around and does good for someone else. The idea is that instead of paying back to the person who has helped you, the good deed is passed forward to someone else. Simply put…when a person is doing a kind deed and doesn’t expect anything in return he is ‘playing if forward’. With one act you can change some ones day, or even their life. I have heard so many testimonies over the years of God answering someone’s desperate prayer through another person’s random act of kindness. There is an amazing feeling that comes with giving of yourself without expecting anything in return. The selfless giver often feels liberated, rejuvenated. There is often even healing (for the giver) that goes along with the process. I encourage you to make it your goal to Play It Forward at least once a week. Then email me and tell me about your experience. Click the button for a list of ideas for PLAYING IT FORWARD.
Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker, but helping the poor honors him. Proverbs 14:31
What can you do?
There are numerous charities you can donate to. If you sew or crochet you can make hats, gloves, scarves, or blankets and donate them to local charities. Any skill that you have can be shared in the form of donated time. If you live in a large city and see homeless people, you can personally give them small items they need. (Below is a link with more detailed suggestions.) Some people have a tendency to be critical and judgmental of the poor. I would like to state that whatever circumstances brought a person to be in a homeless or poverty stricken situation is irrelevant to the fact that we are to be compassionate and merciful to all. These people have very basic needs that you and I can help with. No matter what you are going through, no matter how bad things are for you right now, someone else is worse off. I beg you to be the difference!
